Having a primary research centre that services conservation for Maputaland and Zululand without adding to the burden already carried by students would fundamentally change the research landscape.
The Research Centre is a facility that will be the primary site for education of international students (mostly from the UK and US) as part of the credits for university degrees (partner organisations already identified in the UK and SA).
The centre will further be developed as a research centre for access to any students doing work in the region, and complete with basic equipment such as sorting areas, microscopes, herbariums etc. necessary for field work.
The properties for the centre and for associated field work have been identified. Securing this land will also be a win for conservation by protecting more threatened habitat types and associated species.
