The Corridor Centre

The Corridor Centre is a planned community centre within community lands that is easily accessible, apolitical, and open to all religions, and genders. The centre project is being conducted with partner organisations AL-ORG and Impact4A and the local community. The Centre will be the base for organisations currently working in the communities that need a permanent base to share resources and expertise. It will further welcome partner organisations who adhere to the values and principles of our vision. It will include organisations from the social, economic, and environmental pillars of sustainability.

Both case work and outreach programmes will be completed for Gender Based Violence, HIV/AIDS, orphans, child-headed households, substance abuse, the disabled, the elderly etc. and include regular soup kitchens.

Training and trade skills workshops and courses (certified) will be conducted, as well as access to the National Curriculum online, environmental and agricultural programmes, kids’ camps, STEM based programmes, and more. Communities will be able to request courses they feel are relevant to their needs.

A business incubator unit will support and guide young entrepreneurs and advise on organizational structures and governance, business courses on budgets, marketing, business plans etc. – with potential access to funding for start-ups.

Primary partner organisations have been identified and multiple stakeholder meetings and workshops completed. The community has been engaged and included in foundational discussions. The project site has been identified and surveyed. The proposal draft is in final stages and potential donors and corporates approached with positive responses. Meetings with the Social Development committee members have occurred, with follow up meetings with the full committee and Tribal Authority as next steps.

The Sand Forest Rehabitation

The Sand Forest Project is a sustainable model to restore critically endangered sand forest in historic lands for the first time ever. Sand forest is considered amongst the highest conservation priority ecosystems on the planet due to biological richness, high species endemism, and ecosystem services. More than 70% has been destroyed with less than 5 000 football fields of sand forest remaining. This project will be a model to replicate regionally and grow habitat for conservation and provide value chain products and services through commercial agro-forestry activities from indigenous fruits, nuts, grains, vegetables, and oils. The pilot property has been identified. A price has been negotiated with the landowner, and the leading sand forest experts engaged. Project is still in planning phase with a full proposal currently being compiled.

The Rangeland Regeneration

Large project in partnership with a local tribe in KwaZulu-Natal. The project focuses on improving soils, carbon sequestration, water retention, local climate, and natural pastures through regenerative agricultural systems managed and owned by the community, and following their traditional methods, crops, and livestock. Various stakeholder and community meetings have been completed, an MOU has been approved, potential sites allocated by the traditional leader, and a concept note in final phase. The project will start with a feasibility pilot aimed for early 2022. It is an holistic approach with a focus on being carbon negative while providing food security, water security and sustainable income for community members across the socio-status, age, and gender lines within the community. Once completely implemented, the project has the potential to transform the region and expand sustainable habitats for wildlife greatly while improving the livelihoods of the community around reserves, while improving soil and rangeland conditions and expanding habitat for conservation. This project has the capacity to bring needed income to a cross section of rural society in one of the most impoverished regions, and help create generational wealth.
